The Management Science Department serves the University in the areas of applied statistics, operations research, and quantitative methods for business. The faculty members of the Management Science Department are committed to creating new knowledge through state of the art research, disseminating knowledge through excellence in teaching, and providing service to the profession, the University, and to the global community.
RESEARCH
The creation of new knowledge is an essential part of the intellectual contribution of the Management Science faculty to the academic and professional communities. The department encourages and expects the research faculty to present their current work at professional meetings and to publish in leading academic journals and other outlets appropriate to each faculty member’s particular area of research specialization. Accordingly, the Management Science faculty have an established record of articles in top academic journals, as well as numerous textbooks and monographs.
TEACHING
The faculty of the Management Science Department take great pride in their teaching and list numerous “Excellence in Teaching” award winners among their ranks. The faculty teach a variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The undergraduate curriculum is offered through a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Science. Graduate programs and specializations include the Master of Business Administration, the Master of Science in Professional Studies taught in Spanish, and the Ph.D. program.
SERVICE
The faculty members of the Management Science Department maintain an active presence in the professional and business communities. Our faculty members serve in various positions in the American Statistical Association, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, the Decision Sciences Institute, and the American Institute for Quality. The faculty are also active within the University community serving on many committees, as student advisors, on the boards of various institutes and centers, as well as in the Faculty Senate. Finally, many faculty are actively involved with leading businesses and government agencies providing assistance in their decision making processes.
