University of Miami to Launch Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Program

Coral Gables, Fla. – February 23, 2012 - The University of Miami School of Business Administration has announced that it will launch a new Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Program in May 2012. Classes will take place over three consecutive weekends and will be followed by a process improvement project at the University’s Miller School of Medicine, where participants will work through a full project lifecycle using the University of Miami Lean Six Sigma methodology.  Such projects may include flowcharting different processes and Voice of the Customer interviews among other assignments. The projects will tackle issues ranging from reducing customer wait time to cutting accounts receivables, activities which can have significant positive impact on a company’s top and bottom line.

“As business becomes increasingly complex, global and competitive, the demand for professionals who have the skills to eliminate waste, reduce defects, shrink inventory, and make other critical business process improvements has grown dramatically,” said Howard Gitlow, professor of management science and executive director of the Institute for the Study of Quality of Manufacturing Science at the University of Miami School of Business Administration. “Participants in this new program will emerge with a clear understanding of the role of business processes in their organizations and with the skills and knowledge they need to deliver the process improvements their organizations require.”

Lean Six Sigma is a management style that rigorously and relentlessly promotes the elimination of waste and reduction of variation in all critical processes that impact the bottom line and increase customer and employee satisfaction. Six Sigma is well established in the manufacturing and military sectors, and Lean Six Sigma is becoming increasingly popular in services, health care and government.

The first class in the University of Miami Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Program begins May 5. For more information, visit www.bus.miami.edu/executive-education/open-enrollment/six-sigma, or contact the School’s Office of Executive Education at execed@miami.edu or 305-284-9154.
