An article about privacy issues related to online social networks, authored by Patricia Sanchez Abril, assistant professor of business law, has been judged to be one of the best law review articles published within the last year in the fields of entertainment, publishing and the arts. The recognition comes from Thomas West Group of New York which publishes the Entertainment, Publishing and the Arts Handbook.
Sanchez Abril's article, entitled "Recasting Privacy Torts in a 'Spaceless World,'" was published in the fall edition of the Harvard Journal of Law and Technology. It explores the intersection between the tort law of privacy and online social networking Web sites in order to shed light on the inadequacies of current privacy tort law. The article articulates a new organized framework for analyzing disclosure-related privacy harms on social networking sites and beyond.
The article will be republished in the 2008 edition of the Handbook, which provides in-depth treatment and comprehensive coverage of the latest issues, regulations, legislation, and case laws affecting the entertainment and publishing industries and the arts.
