Alumni Recognized Among South Florida’s Top Business Leaders
July 22, 2010
Four School of Business alumni have been recognized by the South Florida Business Journal as influential leaders in the South Florida business community.
The Journal's top "Forty Under 40 Awards," released in June, cites Jared Fletcher, BBA ‘2000, and Jose Alvarez, BBA '95, among the "40 individuals under the age of 40 who have already achieved career success while finding time to give back to the community. They were selected from nearly 300 nominations. Fletcher, whose career has included stints at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young and Accenture, is now vice president of operations at Arise Virtual Solutions. Jose Alvarez, who has worked for the SEC and Ernst and Young, among other firms, now serves as vice president of merchandising for Navarro Discount Pharmacies. The winners were honored at a gala awards ceremony July 29 in Ft. Lauderdale.
Two other School of Business Alumni were recognized by the Journal as "Real Estate Deal Makers" in its "Power Leaders" section in July. Tere Blanca, BBA '81, MBA '83, and a member of the School's Real Estate Advisory Board, and Manuel De Zarraga, MBA '83, were among those recognized as "professionals who are pushing through challenges, closing deals, starting projects and making the region's commercial real estate engines turn, despite economic pressures." The Journal recognized Blanca, the president and CEO of Blanca Commercial Real Estate for growing her firm into one of the region's most active and fastest growing boutique brokerage and advisory firms. Zarragais is executive managing director of Holliday Fenoglio Fowler L.P. The Journal noted that he has been involved in more than $10 billion of capital markets transaction volume since he joined the firm in 2002.
