Over 500 School of Business Students Participate in Commencement Exercises
May 09, 2013
Nearly 400 undergraduate and 180 graduate students from the School of Business joined more than 3,000 newly minted graduates at the University of Miami’s spring 2013 commencement exercises, May 9-10, at the BankUnited Center. Degree candidates from all UM schools and colleges (except for Miller School of Medicine MD degrees) were recognized by name and walked across the stage to be congratulated by President Donna E. Shalala and their school’s dean. The graduate students included those who have completed the School’s full-time MBA and Executive MBA program, as well as students who will graduate from the MBA for Working Professionals program in June.
Stuart Miller (JD ’82), CEO and a director of Lennar Corporation, delivered the commencement address at the undergraduate ceremony on May 10, while Sylvia Daunert, professor of biochemistry and the Lucille P. Markey Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, delivered remarks at the graduate degree ceremony.
“This morning marks the culmination of hard work, focus, time and effort that are all associated with academic achievement,” said Miller.
“Every new environment requires a transition. Be battle-ready from the onset. You have to stay connected to the flow of political and economic events, because that kind of macro-information impacts your life every day.”
