“I have very mixed emotions about it,” said Alexandra Hussey, a marketing, health sector management and policy, and legal studies major, reflecting on her graduation from the School of Business. “I’ve had such a wonderful experience here at the U, the transition is exciting and I’m looking forward to the next thing and all of the great adventures that are to come,” said Hussey who served as the student commencement speaker at the undergraduate ceremony May 6.

“But also it hurts a little to leave the university and to leave this really supportive family that has been here for me.” A Pennsylvania native, Hussey is headed back north to join Z.S. Associates in Princeton, New Jersey, where she will work in health care sales and marketing consulting.

Hussey’s enthusiasm about graduation day and what lies ahead is shared by classmates including Jeffrey Sznapstajler, who is headed to Chicago to work as an account manager for Procter & Gamble.

“It’s really exciting,” said Sznapstajler, who majored in management and marketing. “We’ve been working for this for four years and now it all finally culminates. You get to see all your friends graduate with all your professors there, it’s just a really cool experience.”

Gillian Tett, an award-winning British author and the U.S. managing editor at the Financial Times who is widely credited with being the first mainstream journalist to issue public warnings about the bubbling financial crisis that exploded into the headlines in 2008, addressed more than 600 graduates of the School of Business Administration and the College of Engineering at the Friday evening ceremony.

Graduating seniors celebrated their accomplishment with family, friends,
faculty and staff at a commencement reception.

Tett has reported on an eclectic range of financial topics from around the world. She speaks multiple languages and is the author of several books, including The New York Times best seller, Fool’s Gold: The Inside Story of J.P. Morgan and How Wall St. Greed Corrupted Its Bold Dream and Created a Financial Catastrophe.

Another graduate of the School of Business served as the University’s Honor’s Day Convocation speaker earlier in the week. Daniel Moubayed, who graduated as an accounting and legal studies major, is now headed to New York City where he will work on the international team at J.P. Morgan Chase.

The graduating seniors celebrated their accomplishment with family, friends, faculty and staff at a commencement reception the same day. The top graduating seniors were honored April 22 during the annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Ceremony.
