      Graduate Awards Ceremony

The School’s newly-minted MBAs and other master’s program graduates gathered outside the School of Business following their commencement May 12 to honor the top students in each class, as well as their picks for outstanding professors. Students were honored with the Valedictorian Award, for academic accomplishment and the Leadership Award, for demonstrating initiative, commitment, passion and leadership among their peers. School administrators and staff joined the students, their families and friends to celebrate their accomplishments and to honor the top students.

“As you know, the business world today is changing so dramatically every single minute and all of you will be working in a very dynamic [environment],” said Frances Aldrich Sevilla-Sacasa, the School’s interim dean, in welcome remarks. “But I am certain that no other business school graduates are better prepared to meet the challenges and to seize the opportunities of this ever changing global economy.”

“We want to celebrate and enjoy this special moment as your journey as business students with us comes to an end. It has been a great journey, filled with exciting events,” said Anuj Mehrotra, vice dean of graduate business programs. “In the ACG Cup [competition], for the third year in a row, the UM MBA team won first place….for the first time, we participated in the Emory Health Care Competition, and the UM team…won second place,” said Mehrotra as he noted the numerous accomplishments of the class of 2011.
