The University of Miami’s Model United Nations team, which includes two business majors, took home numerous awards after competing in the University of Pennsylvania Model United Nation’s Conference (UPMUNC) held in Philadelphia in November. The team received the Outstanding Small Delegation award, which honors the achievements and hard work the team dedicated to prepare for the conference. The Miami delegation, led by Daniel Moubayed and Byron Hazzard, was represented in multiple committees, which tackled contemporary global issues.

UPMUNC is regarded as the most competitive conference of the fall semester, where delegates from top universities across the nation compete to mobilize and raise awareness of international issues, hoping to resolve conflicts that affect countries throughout the world. This year’s team successfully rose to the challenge, offering creative solutions and beginning to organize the platform to enact global change. Team members also received top awards in their respective committees including:

"The University of Miami's Model UN team has had a long history of successes,” said Patricia Abril, a professor of business law and the Model UN faculty advisor. “I am so proud to see their hard work and talent recognized at the highest levels.”

The UM team received the Business School Organization of the Year award in 2012-2013, the Outstanding Small Delegation award at Yale University in fall 2013, and the Best Small Delegation award at the nation’s most prestigious conference hosted by Harvard University in Spring 2014. The team will travel to Harvard University in February to defend its title, and will also travel to University of Chicago in April.
