New Faculty Join University of Miami School of Business from Leading Universities

The School of Business is welcoming 12 new faculty members in five academic departments this new school year.


Accounting

Joining the Department of Accounting as an assistant professor is Pietro A. Bianchi. An Italian CPA and financial auditor, he comes to the School from IE Business School in Madrid, where he earned his PhD in accounting. His research interests include auditing, social network analysis, private firms and financial reporting.
 
Khrystyna Bochkay joins the department as an assistant professor, after earning her PhD from Rutgers University. Bochkay’s research interests include empirical capital markets, mandatory and voluntary disclosures, forecasting, and textual analysis.
   

Roman Chychyla, who also earned his PhD from Rutgers, joins the department as a visiting assistant professor. His research interests include XBRL financial reporting, accounting database quality and audit analytics.

    

Economics

The Department of Economics is also welcoming three faculty members.

Sebastian Calonico joins the School as an assistant professor after earning his PhD from the University of Michigan. His research interests include microeconometrics, robust nonparametric estimation and labor economics.
  
Also joining the department as an assistant professor is Ilwoo Hwang, after earning his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests include microeconomic theory, game theory, and their applications.
  

Jerome Krief joins the School as a visiting assistant professor. Previously he was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Virginia. Krief, whose research interests include microeconometrics, robust nonparametric estimation, and labor economics, earned his PhD from Louisiana State University.

   

Finance

Rik Sen joins the Department of Finance as a visiting assistant professor. He comes to the School from HKUST Business School, where he has been an assistant professor of finance since 2009. Sen, whose research interests include corporate finance, executive compensation, insider trading, corporate governance, and behavioral corporate finance, earned his PhD from New York University.

 

Management Science

The Department of Management Science is welcoming three new faculty members.

Bradley Price joins the School as a clinical assistant professor after earning his PhD from the University of Minnesota. His research interests include statistical machine learning, semi-supervised learning, statistical computing, statistics education, reproducible research, and statistical consulting.
    
Christos Zacharias joins the department as a visiting assistant professor after earning his PhD at New York University. His research interests include queueing theory, applied probability, scheduling, predictive analytics, with applications in health care management and service science.
   

Emma Jingfei Zhang joins the department as an assistant professor after earning her PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include network modeling and inference, statistical computing, Monte Carlo theory and methodology, Bayesian analysis nonparametric statistics, machine learning, statistical inference on big data and scientific problems.

 

Marketing

Two new faculty members have joined the Department of Marketing.

Caglar Irmak joins the School as an associate professor. He was most recently an assistant professor of marketing at the University of Georgia. Irmak, whose research interests include inference making and perception in relation to product preferences, usage and valuation, health-related decision making, corporate social responsibility and prosocial behavior, earned his PhD from Baruch College, City University of New York.
  
Zoey Chen joins the department as an assistant professor after earning her PhD from Georgia Tech. Her research interests include word of mouth communication, social media, social influence, and the impact of technology on consumer behavior.
