The School of Business welcomed some of the world’s leading finance scholars to campus this spring as host of the 2013 SFS (Society for Financial Studies) Finance Cavalcade, an annual conference organized by the Society of Financial Studies.  The conference drew 240 finance professors from nearly 50 institutions around the world including Harvard University, Yale University, The Wharton School, MIT, Stanford University, Cornell University, the University of Chicago, and Duke University.

The event was organized by Alok Kumar, the School’s Gabelli Asset Management Professor of Finance, and Doug Emery, professor, Bank of America Scholar, and department chair of finance.

Other participants included Jawad Addoum, assistant professor of finance at the School. Addoum served as the discussant for a paper authored by Lauren Cohen and Christopher Malloy of Harvard Business School and Umit Gurun of the University of Texas at Dallas, titled “Channels of Influence.”

“The Society for Financial Studies is one of the largest finance associations and publishes the Review of Financial Studies, which is one of the top journals in academic finance,” said Addoum. “This is the third year that they are holding the Cavalcade. It provides another venue for the discussion of current research and the exchange of new ideas.“

Emery says the conference was a great opportunity to promote the School in front of an important audience. He also notes that the conference drew twice the number of scholars than expected, illustrating the conference’s success.

The School’s hosting of the SFS Finance Cavalcade follows another national finance conference organized by the School’s finance department. For the past three years, the School has hosted the Miami Behavioral Finance Conference, which welcomes some of the world’s leading behavioral science and economics researchers.
